Taking It Back To My Roots

My parents went to Arthur Ave today and when I  walked by their dining room table I stopped and got a flashback from my youth. When my mom made us tea it was always Chamomile. I even like it with milk. Then my dad always brought home Nutella Italian stuffed croissants . I remember the smell and taste just looking at the package. While I was looking at some goodies I enjoyed through my childhood this Song was playing on the Television.

October 12th Rise Above Your Past

Healing...When The Memories Resurface

I saw an old friend. Been a while. He asked how I was. He said I looked great.  We started to talk about our kids and life and then he brought up my past. He asked how things were now. Better I said. He then started to discuss some things I went through.

I swear the wounds opened up. Even though I have healed doesn’t mean those memories aren’t damaging because they are. It was a period of my life that I would never repeat or want relive. Even briefly discussing things reopened feelings of anger.

Unmet expectations is all I had to say. He understood. He knew my situation. My life. My past. We seen it with other people in our childhood crew. But it did something to me. At first it was pain. Embarrassing that I had to go through such bullshit. It then gave me power. It made me feel strong for being on my own. For not staying in a situation that was toxic and not good. You gotta understand people know. You don’t have to speak or justify your life. People aren’t blind or stupid. People talk. They see the truth. He hugged me a couple of times. He understood. I didn’t even had to say much.

I think we all have pain. We go through crazy moments in our life. Domestic Violence. Childhood fears. A loss of a parent or loved one. A job loss. People stabbing us in the back. Reclaiming who we are. Someone cheating. Childhood trauma. A sickness we overcame. Debt. A lifelong illness we always have to deal with.  The list is endless. But something on this list we all had to deal with. It’s our path. Our journey.

The memories can cause pain and reopen wounds but let it always give you strengthen. Let it prove how far you have come. Who you had to become because of it. You’re a brave soul. Never doubt that. You have overcome stuff people don’t ever want to face or handle. But you did. Those wounds will always be there but it makes you the warrior you are. That’s why you can’t settle now. You have come so far. Don’t ever let someone take your power or strengthen away.

The Dilly Duck Shop For Breakfast

I have been wanting to come here for a year. I finally got to check it out. My friends were so excited and named this our new breakfast spot.

It’s so cute inside. The staff is ridiculously nice. So friendly.

It’s so clean and cute inside. You feel like you’re away on vacation.

Their coffee is delicious and two of us got their breakfast sandwiches with ham and cheddar cheese. It came with a side little salad. Delicious. The bread is grilled to perfection.

My other friend got their pasta which was delicious. You have to try this place. So cute.

Kee Oyster House in White Plains

We had to go back and we will be back again. I can’t even explain how amazing this place is. We sat at the bar again and made even more friends this time. I love sitting at a bar while dining. You start to mingle with workers and other people around you. You find out about local area to try out. We learned that this restaurant has an awesome lobster special on Monday nights.

So let’s get to the bottom line...the appetizer I got was the most delicious appetizer I have had in a really long time. So much so that writing about it my mouth is watering.

Mussels with chorizo in a white wine broth.

AMAZING!!

Before

After

They serve it with a side of grilled Italian bread. You dip it in the broth. Phenomenal!!

We then got shrimp cocktail. Scallop risotto and linguini with clams.

We stayed for hours. Laughing. Eating. Drinking. Meeting new people. We became friends with the workers. Such a great vibe and amazing food.

We can’t wait to go back.

Michele’s Pies in Norwalk

I walked past this on my way to breakfast. I have tried her pies before at farmers markets but never stopped in her bakery. It was awesome. It smelled like fresh apple pie. They had samples of pie to try. The staff was so friendly we chatted a bit and they even held my order until after I had breakfast next door so the pie didn’t sit in my car.

My oldest was having friends over so I picked up this awesome pie for dessert. Candyland. Candy. Chocolate pudding. Oreos. Brownie crust. The kids loved it.

I also grabbed a small pumpkin cookie with cream cheese frosting. Delicious.

October Is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

I loved seeing this in front of Norwalk Community College because people need to know there is help and they should never feel alone. Domestic Violence is never ok no matter what the circumstances are. I have met women and men who have been in domestic violent relationships. It’s degrading. No one has the right or power to ever make you feel unsafe or to use aggressive behavior towards you. Your life should have zero tolerance for violence especially by someone who is suppose to “love you”

Every 9 seconds, a woman in the U.S. is beaten or assaulted by a current or ex-significant other.

1 in 4 men are victims of some form of physical violence by an intimate partner.”

It happens to men. It happens to women. Teens. Adults. All ages and races. It’s not ok. It’s never ok.
