Let’s Play Chess
I haven’t played in over 25 years. Weird right? I just never had the opportunity. My uncle used to play so when my boyfriend told me he’s been playing since he was in the Navy I said I would like to try it again. I haven’t played in so long.
He brought his board over and since then we have been playing. He left it at my place so I could play with my oldest. Ironically she wasn’t that interested but my little ones were.
My middle one is pretty amazing. She’s not shy to take risks. She’s pretty aggressive in her moves. My youngest asked for me to take it easy on her which of course I did but her too understood all the moves really fast.
Chess-a simple yet complex game. A friend said it’s easy to learn but takes a lifetime to master. I have to agree!
Healthy Discussions
I don’t like the word arguing. I like discussions. Why? Because who the hell likes to argue? Not me but I always am up for a healthy discussion.
Disagreements are normal. We will tend to have them with people throughout our lifetime. But you must be respectful. You must honor the fact that no two people think alike.
Talk it out. When in doubt talk it out. I always love people I can learn from. I may not agree with their beliefs but it does educate me. Treat misunderstandings as a process to learn from one another.
There’s no need to get physical or loud. You can agree to disagree while still respecting each other and creating a healthy outcome so you both have an understanding that makes your relationship/friendship, mind and knowledge stronger.
Did You Set Your Goals?
We started this last year New Year. I wrote all of our names on a separate piece of paper and we listed some goals we had for ourselves and even suggested to others some goals they should work on. We then tape them to the fridge so they are reminders to us throughout the year.
It’s actually a great reflection too and I am surprised my girls are ok with it. I listed mine and asked my girls what should I add to mine. Then we went around a circle and everyone did the same thing.
It’s not to insult anyone or to make their weaknesses known. It’s about accepting we always are a work in progress and should always find was to better ourselves.
Mine were to practice more mindfulness, increase physical activities, do more yoga and be more patient and understanding.
What goals did you set for yourself? It doesn’t have to be in the New year. It can be every week or month or whatever you like. Just always be sure to work on bettering yourself so you can better the people around you and be better for the people around you.
