Quality Time...Real Time...Little Feel Good Times

This was my fortune the other day. It made me laugh. It’s so true. I was never about materialistic stuff, ever! I cared about the little things. Spending time together. My favorite thing last summer was to pack a cooler and spend all afternoon and night hanging on a beach. Just listening to the waves and chatting. Laughing. Taking in the fresh sea air. Excited to do it all again this summer. So simple yet good for the soul.

It’s the little things that stick with us.  Little messages that make a person smile. Taking time to do something for someone. Spending time together even if it’s picking up fun apps and hanging on a porch chatting all night.

I once had a friend bring me a single rose because they knew I liked watching the bachelor. I had another friend who always has my favorite drink waiting for me whenever I would arrive at their house on ice with a straw. Another a Charcuterie Board for me with fig jam perfect for a night in.

Little. Simple. Stay in my heart forever. Gestures.

Whatever little gestures make your heart appreciate it, do the same to others too, and always make it clear to others what makes your heart happy. ❤️

Happy Birthday To My Pop

To the one man I know will always be there for me...no matter what.

There’s something that Fathers of girls have to remember... you set the tone to what we will accept and tolerate in another man. My pop was always a strong worker, put my mom and us kids first and always was there for us know matter what. He always was the king in the house so being good to us came easy.

Whenever times get tough he asks “What do you need me to do? Are you ok? Are you happy?”

Those famous three questions...I am grateful everyday for his love and support.

What’s Your Therapy?

I must admit I write a lot lately but it’s the best therapy for me. When I see something that helps me or relates to what I have been through or going through I like to share it with my readers.

I am not one to keep things in. People in my life always know how I feel. If I loved you I loved you hard. If you hurt me I let you know. If you made me happy I did everything to make you happy. Even if I don’t have control of the outcomes I have dealt with love and lose and lust and pain. I also like you am learning everyday how to peel away the layers to be truly happy and heal and grow.

“A broken heart, empty pocket or hungry stomach are the best lessons in life.”

What’s your therapy? What do you have to offer? Writing is mine. What’s yours?

Maybe Something Even Better!

What Role Are You Playing?

Interesting video I came across. What role are you playing?

Feel Good Song: Crystallize

With Every Decision You Give Something Else Up

With every decision you make you have to give something up for it. No matter what it is. No matter what decision you have to pick. You choose something over something else. In order for your decision to really work you have to give it your 100%. Something loses every single time you make a decision to choose something else. Think about the decisions you make. Have made and continue to make. Choose wisely.

Art & Idea Festival Starts Saturday June 8th

The International Festival of Arts & Ideas in New Haven brings together performing artists and thought leaders from around the world to New Haven, CT.

I love art. There’s something about seeing someone’s creativity shine through. A couple months ago I went to a local art exhibit with some friends and it was so much fun. I haven’t been in so long. It’s great to see how other people put their creative mind to good use.

Wednesday Is Buy One Get One Free Sundaes At Carvel

Buy one sundae get one free at Carvel on Wednesday’s

When your best friend is home you squeeze in as much time together as possible. Who knew that growing up we would have these kids amongst us. Nights out would also include trips out to ice cream with our kids.

How Do You Handle Anger?

I hate to generalize but I will. Whenever someone grew angry around me it was always an elevated act. Out of control. Like you knew this person was angry or mad or very upset. Physical force or aggressive behavior was present. Breaking things or an elevation in their tone and voice. You didn’t have the question how they felt because they told you just in their actions.

But that’s not how you handle anger...

We all have trigger points. We handle these trigger points based on how our environment has taught us to handle them.

Let me explain...I started to meet really calm, chill, people past year and a half. Men who were very laid back yet manly men. Tough guys yet sweet at the core. Protectors yet genuinely sincere, kind, gentle.   A couple of times I witnessed them handle anger and situations that triggered them. I didn’t even know they were mad. “I am so mad” they said. Um What? Really? You’re not yelling. You’re not intimidating anyone. You’re not being aggressive or scary or abusive. You’re not breaking things. You’re actually calm.  You’re still being respectful.

I started to stop generalizing how you should handle
anger.

I started to see it in my own kids. The other day a misunderstanding took place over an activity I signed up to help at school. “Honey there was a misunderstanding and he said I was attending and you said I wasn’t and I told him you were right I was coming later in the day and he said oh I am sorry I will have to apologize to her for getting upset. I forgot to tell him I will be late.  So he will speak with you.” When I told my daughter she said “Mom he wasn’t angry. He was so calm. He told me he would speak with you. It’s fine.”

It hit me right then and there the same way I would generalize how anger was handled my daughter did too. It stopped me in my tracks. It made me want to not have my kids generalize or accept anger the way I used to. That people don’t need to turn into a monster to get their point across. They don’t have to intimidate people to be heard.

It all starts with you. It really does. It’s a level of what you would tolerate or not. It’s also being able to diffuse a situation when things escalate. When shouting occurs to not one up someone. To not be forceful or aggressive. To be able to bring the person back down to a state of calmness.

Sometimes our norm doesn’t have to be our reality.

Feel Good Song: Awake My Soul

In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die and where you invest your love, you invest your life”

Please Call Me...Sunshine

It started out as a joke. I was out with the kids and they kept calling me..Mom..MOM...MOMMMMM. I turned around and said enough. I am changing my name. “oh yeah to what mom” “well if you’re going to call me over and over again then at least call me something that is fun, bright, how about for now on call me Sunshine”

Well it stuck. Now I hear Mom...MOM....SUNSHINE and I can’t help but laugh. They do it at home. When we go out. People turn and look at me and I explain the story and they laugh.

Peel the layers and reveal a little everyday of who you really are. I always wanted to be carefree and happy...Sunshine is a good start!

Be Your True Self

Feel Good Song: Hold On To What You Believe

Monday Vibes

What are your Monday vibes...mine are a mix of things. From not wanting to get out of bed to jumping out to tackle all the events of the day I have planned. Work. Kids schedule. Night time relaxation.

Not sure about you but sometimes I feel like a puppet. Same stuff...Wake up...Can’t wait for day to end to rest. Start again.

Then I remember how lucky I am to have the life I have. For all the times I wasn’t happy and now can be. How everyday can be different and leave the sorrows of the past behind.

Don’t be a puppet. Be you!

Local In Sono & Fairfield

This picture doesn’t do justice for the size of this thing. A friend ordered it Friday night at dinner and it looked insane. It’s their Cadillac Burger. A burger topped with pulled pork and a ton of goodness. It wasn’t easy for him to bite into. I didn’t even attempt it but I will tell you any meat lover would love this.

Last time I went to Local was in Fairfield and my friend and I ordered Crab Tater Kegs. Which were amazing and looked like little kegs.

I always forget about this place but it’s a cool spot to have good conversation. Good food and catch a game or hang out.

Be A Good Person...

What’s Your Purpose? Who Are You Really?

We all have thought about this at one point or another in our life.

I began to see a pattern. A pattern in my life. I attract people who need saving. Broken people.  I know I know sounds so silly but it’s true. There are a ton of people out there like me. A ton who get sucked into helping people who need guidance or some sort of friendship or support. The difference is you can’t make their problems yours. You also cannot confuse being a friend with some intimate relationship attached. You can’t save people and lose yourself. Someone is bound to get hurt.

So I met a friend. Who is extremely intuitive. Looked at me and read me like a book. It was sort of freaky. That my friend could pick up on so much just looking at my eyes. The pain, the journey, the experiences. “Peel back your layers” my friend said and reveal your true self.

I have heard this before from a girlfriend of mine. She told me this story about a dragon with layers where at the core was a stunning prince. I think about it all the time. Where we have our outer layer. It protects us. Shelters us. It’s tough. How people see us from the outside. It’s like a mask. Covering our layers. Where under each layer is pain. Experience. Our journey. Then at the core, after all the layers have been stripped away is something not everyone can see in us. Our true self. Our deep core is there. It’s like revealing our soul. Being vulnerable to anyone who has true access to us.
It’s scary for someone to see that in us because we are allowing someone truly in.

If you meditate and learned to focus on your “third eye” you can travel through these layers. Like flashbacks to reveal your inner child, your core.

That person. Your core. Is your true self. Behind the mask. Behind the layers. That true self has a purpose in life. Do you know what yours is? I say I know mine but as I continue my journey in life I slowly discover a little more. As I peel a layer I try not to create a new one or sometimes two or three to protect being hurt again. Being vulnerable isn’t something a single mom wants to be. I won’t lie. But in order for me and yourself to find your true purpose you have to shed those layers to find your true self.

I saw this in an article and it is spot on:

So when people say, “What should I do with my life?” or “What is my life purpose?” what they’re actually asking is: “What can I do with my time that is important?”

What’s important to you?
