Snow Day For Norwalk

They came up to me last night. They had a spoon in a bag. Their pjs inside out and asked for ice cubes for the toilet.

I had so many questions. I was so confused and I said. Ummm what and why?

They said teachers at school said if they wanted a snow day to do this the night before.

It works so I guess this will be our new snow day ritual.

Enjoy Your Life!

Love this and it’s so true!

Next Life…I am Coming Back As Them

Breakfast in bed is our birthday tradition. Yesterday they said they wanted breakfast in bed for today Nope. Only for birthdays, that’s our tradition I said. So of course I gave in but with one exception.

They came to make their own trays and they carried them up.

They agreed.

I may have cooked for an army but when they have three different requests you do what you have to do to make three kids happy.

I Scream You Scream…We All Scream For

Our plans changed today so we spent a Saturday in. Playing Board games. TV watching. Ipad relaxing and ice cream making.

I haven’t made ice cream in a while. It’s super easy. Vanilla has always been my best flavor to make. In the past I got really creative. Egg nog. Candy cane.

But sometimes simple is better.

Online has great recipes.

I used:

3 1/2 cups of half and half
1 cup of sugar
1 1/2 table spoons of vanilla extract

Mix and pour in. The longer you leave it on the thicker the ice cream becomes.

Challenge Accepted!

My youngest asked for new curtains. So I ordered them and the rods and took out the power drill. She suggested I ask one of the handy men in my life; my boyfriend or brother in law to put them up.

“Mom you don’t know how to use a power drill ask the guys to do it. ”

I beg your pardon?  I sure do.

So when they were at school I hung them up. They loved them and were impressed.

Don’t ever under estimate what you’re capable of doing and achieving.

It’s Ok To Feel The Way You Feel

Plans changed and I was able to pick up my little ones from school. My youngest wasn’t very happy. She was expecting my parents to get her and a random request to try Taco Bell which I wasn’t agreeing to and that all lead to her spiral meltdown.

She started off disappointed, then mad, then mean, and even meaner and then sad and tears flowed. She then became apologetic. I am not lying to you when I say this all happened within a 6 minute drive home. 6 minutes.

At first I was understanding. Then I wasn’t. At the end ipad was taken away and an apology letter for me was requested.

Then something happened. She stopped. Looked at me and said I am sorry. I am hungry.

Due to Covid snack time has been taken away in their class due to risk of exposure with masks off in class.

I get it. It’s a long day. I would be hungry too. I looked at her and said I understand but that’s all you had to say. “Mom I am hungry” or  “Mom I am moody because I am tired or disappointed you came to get me verse my grandparents” Etc.

She hugged me. Chose to write me an apology note and read it to me while I made her a snack.

I told her it’s ok to feel a certain way she just can’t take it out of people because she feels that way. You can’t be mean to others just because you don’t feel ok. Or are mad or sad or hungry or disappointed.

I think adults need this reminder too. So this post is for you. Really. It’s for the adults who still haven’t learned this.

Our job as parents is to read between the lines to figure out what’s really wrong with our kids and to teach them how to handle those emotions. It’s so they don’t become adults who act this way.

I see it a lot. I see it with all different ages and genders. People being snappy or too overly emotional. It’s a bad look. It’s emotional intelligence which many have yet to achieve. It’s behavior that can fortunately be changed and fixed and corrected. You need to first be able to recognize it.

Take the time to do so and help those around you who need guidance.

At This Point…

Homemade Hot Cocoa Bombs

I will be honest. My baking skills haven’t been good lately but I wanted to redeem myself so I ordered these molds to make Hot Cocoa Bombs with the girls tonight and they were delicious!!! All you have to do is melt chocolate and pour into molds. Chill and fill them with hot chocolate mix. Pour warm milk
over it and stir.

Here’s a trick I saw. Use a clean. New paint brush and paint the molds with melted chocolate. Refrigerate it for 5-10 minutes. Take it out and add another layer of melted chocolate. Put in the fridge for another 5-10 minutes.

Pop them out of thee molds  and fill with hot chocolate powder.

Put a chocolate bomb in a mug and pour hot milk over it.

Delicious!!

The more chocolate in the mold the better. The kids loved them.

Sunday Movie Day…Sing 2

I have been wanting to take the kids to see Sing 2 but with cases being so high I felt it was best to wait. I saw on Facebook you could rent it on Amazon Prime.

It was the perfect Sunday in. Watching a movie and hanging with the girls.

With the Covid on the rise it’s hard to adjust to life but it helps when you get a little creative and still get to enjoy the small stuff. Like watching a movie in the comfort of your home! 🎥🍿
