Coalhouse In Stamford Craft Beer Event April 6th 2017

This looks like a super fun event taking place at the Coalhouse in a Stamford. Check it out!

Sedona Taphouse Brunch in Norwalk CT

We had our friends come up from Brooklyn to spend the afternoon with us. I had to think of a place quick to accommodate a group of 8 people 4 people young kids  it's hard because a lot of places are tight and not comfortable or their menu isn't accommodating. My husband suggested pizza and I said let's do Sedona. I have been already a couple of times with friends before but never brought the kids. It was perfect because it's huge and spacious inside.

Bottomless mimosas for $10. Fun brunch items or a lunch menu full of fun sandwiches, salads, small bites. Their kid menu had a great selection for kids. Traditional pizza, mac and cheese and even steak. We ordered a couple of each. They all came with sides and we got the kids salad and fruit cups and string beans. Really a lot of food and delicious. I ordered their short rib sandwich and a side salad. Delicious!  Their slaw wasn't overpowering, their dressing on the salad was super refreshing. The children's pizza came out in a shape of a heart- which I absolutely love. Really a delicious meal. Love that they also have free parking in the parking garage, very accommodating.

Street Smarts: Something Learned Not Taught

Growing up in Norwalk and with having two sisters taught me a lot. Taught me to fend for myself but to also show people respect. It also taught me that is all in your approach. One reason I never wanted to leave my town was because I really like the diversity.

Growing up I would walk into the Columbian store and order food. They looked at me like I was crazy. Light skinned, blonde head, "Bianca" coming in asking for empanadas. But that's how it is growing up around here. You have little fear. You're able to adapt to your surroundings. You are exposed to different cultures and it makes you wiser.  I think my parents exposing us to a lot also helped with that too.

A lot of people ask if we will leave Norwalk. Only if my husband's job relocates...which may be a possibility in the near future but reality is we become accustomed to a certain society. We adapt
to it and grow from it. I mentioned it to my daughter's teacher at school. I asked how was she getting along with everyone and if there was any situations I should be aware of. She said no and not to worry "your daughter already can hold her ground and has street smarts". Right there is something that you can't teach but is taught based on your surroundings. Being around people of different backgrounds and cultures makes you not react to situations because you are used to the diversity.

Right there I knew I was succeeding as a parent. You want your kids to be able to stick up for themselves not just be a bully or too rough around the edges  but when situations cause them to.

I Am Not The Same Person I Was Yesterday and Neither Are You

I am not the same person I was 10 years ago or 5 years or even yesterday. Everyday I change  everyday you change. The situations we are faced with help make us stronger. Some stink, drain us, others are amazing. My Mom actually helped open my eyes to this. We were talking the other day and she said to me the other day you aren't the same person you were 10 years ago. You're stronger, more independent, tougher, more secure, and less fragile.

She's right and I bet you are too!

Peach-A-Rita's...Oh My

First was margaritas in a can, then strawberry now peach. I bought these and one can is perfect for someone who doesn't drink often. It's 8% alcohol in a tiny can. We drank it straight from the can but I could see pouring this over crushed ice or even in a blender for a frozen margarita to add some fun.

Sleep Well: Maybe It's Not Just For Kids But Adults Too!

I love my daughter's room. It's a sunshine yellow. I was laying on the ground today and looked up. The dream lites were on. The lady bug was smiling and stars all around and thought what a great image to fall asleep to. It comes in four different colors you can select or a mode where the colors alternate on their own.

It's almost like Adults could benefit from this gadget too. After a long day we seem to overthink stuff, worry about stuff but what if we too could have something on our ceiling that made us smile as we fell asleep.  Wouldn't that change all of our worries too? It's funny because whenever I crawl into their bed and stay the night I sleep like a rock. Maybe it's the energy in the room that is soothing, maybe it is the fun bright lites that make it comforting, maybe it's the carefree ambiance that brings me back to my own childhood.

Get Older Isn't Always A Bad Thing!

Do You Own A Business or Would Like To Help Sponsor ?

Sponsors Needed!! I am helping with getting sponsors for an upcoming event.

May is our school's walk-a-thon. I am looking for sponsors who would like to sponsor it. What this means is for $150 your company will go on all our marketing material sent home and on the back of shirts for 600 student walking, over 25 teachers and over a dozen volunteers- like me. For $300 you get your company on back of shirt & a table at this event.

This is a huge reach for a low cost and for a great reason- helping a school in Norwalk. Families are always looking for new places to try and enjoy with their children. Whether be a restaurant, bakery, service company or even activity for kids to enjoy, your company will not go unnnoticed or unappreciated.

I am working with the PTA to raise money for enrichment programs for the school that my daughter attends. These programs are amazing opportunities for our children.

I will even feature your company on my blog and all my social media platforms. That's over 2000 followers.

If you would like to learn more please contact me mommyct2009@yahoo.com and put "Sponsor" in subject line.

I appreciate the support and so do our 600 children!

When You Meet A Group Of People Who Just Get You, You Hold On To ThemTight!

My husband was away for work. I didn't want to take the kids out so I asked my friends what they thought of having a St. Paddy's  Day play date at my house. Everyone but one was able
to join us.

I made crock pot corn beef and cabbage. Amazing, thanks to www.allrecipe.com recipe, everyone brought dessert and my friend brought crafts for the kids to make hats. So so fun. These group of women are truly amazing and every time we're together it's nothing but great fun, great company and great food.

Crockpot Cornbeef and Cabbage recipe.

1 package of cornbeef
potatoes
4 cups of water
1 cup of chopped carrots
1 chopped onion
1 Guiness stout dark beer
1 head of cabbage

Spray crockpot with oil spray for easy clean up. Dice potatoes put bottom of crockpot. Add carrots and onions. Pour four cups of water over it. Add meat. Pour bottle of beer. Top meat with seasoning that came with it. Cook on high four hours then set on low for remainder of time (4 hours) An hour before complete add the chopped cabbage on top. Cook another hour. Amazing! The girls said it was the best they ever had.

*Dressed up at school pickup

Dry Dock Bar & Grille

I wanted to go someplace for yummy St. Paddy's Fun & Day food but not too much of a crazy crowd for lunch with my sister and little one. This was the PERFECT Spot. The food was amazing. I actually got their patty melt since I was craving it and my sister the corn beef and cabbage which all was super amazing. I enjoyed the fun Emerald Punch drink and dessert...oh my...Irish Bread Pudding with a whiskey caramel sauce. Words can't describe how delicious this was. Warm, balanced in flavors, as soon as you tasted the whisky the caramel sauce flavor kicked in. Should be added to their menu. Amazing!

The place is clean, kid friendly, and has an awesome, fun staff.

Donut Crazy Is Now In Westport

If you haven't tried these donuts well then you're missing out. I am sure you have heard of them they have multiple locations, a donut truck and now are in the Westport train station (on the other side of the tracks)I stopped in today and ran in quickly. I didn't even get a chance to grasp all the amazing donuts they offer. This one caught my eye.  I had a St. Paddy's Day party tonight and wanted to add a fun, festive dessert. Well this one the moms all got to enjoy. It was filled with Irish Cream Mousse. Amazing.

They even offer food at this location too from the wide known Fairfield County chef Matt Storch who owns Match in Norwalk, And NOM-EEZ in Fairfield.

Their style is super unique, extremely creative and oh so delicious. My favorite is their iced coffee. If you haven't had the chance to get your hands on one of these donuts then take the trip. I really wish I could sample all the donuts they offer but let's face it my waistline wouldn't approve. But really a creative product. I tip my hat to the creative masterminds behind these amazing, unique donuts.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

There's A Reason We Cross Paths

I am a strong believer of this. Some people are lessons, some are teachers, some help us see things in ourselves. Some are blessings. Some are curses. Some we don't forget.

Regardless of what it is or how it goes, you cross people for a reason!

Teacher Conferences: They Got It From Their Mamma

Today was conference day. It started with Pre K orientation for my youngest. She did so well! There's always that thought in the back of your mind-please don't mess this up kid. Then there's those kids that run out of the classroom crying. Before you know it they were coming in one after another. Wow they are dropping like flies I said to my husband. My kid didn't want to leave- go figure. It's like you want to talk your kid up and then pray they don't do something crazy like eat the play dough. So parents who kids didn't handle this well, it's ok. It happens.

Then was my middle child's conference. She's amazing and smart and I have nothing but good things to say was her teachers response. Now keep in mind this is my kid the doctor suggested speech therapy a year ago. It's amazing how kids change and fast. Super proud parent moment. I said well can we focus on teaching her to brush her hair. The aide said well she loves when I do her hair. Send in a brush. I just laughed. Of course she does I thought. I am not a strict mom but also can't stand sticky faces or knotty hair and well my kids don't mind it. I always say they look like the children from the movie "Annie" and it drive a me crazy.

Off to the third conference. I always loved my daughters elementary school teachers. One main reason she's still in the Norwalk Public School system. They are really amazing. We chat for a while about baseball. As the teacher is talking I am glancing down at my daughter's test scores for reading. Off the charts. Now I brag because well who wouldn't but really it's funny because they say kids get their brains from their mom but yet she is SO different then me. She is in AT-Academically Talented and I was in Artistly Talented- Special Art Classes. She gets pulled out of class and they do projects that I can't pronounce and I used to get pulled out of class to paint and draw and mold stuff.  She loves science. I loved art. My English at times isn't proper or correct- I blame that on my parents who were foreigners- but all jokes aside this kid corrects my English, she is super talented in opposite ways I am. Her reading scores surpass the standard she should be in once the year is over. She gets out four books at a time from the library. I would sketch while my teacher's spoke.

Overall I ended the night super proud. Like pat myself on the back proud. I kept think I just want to give my kids the world. Like really. It's motivation for me to keep having them be the best they can be while wanting a bigger house for them so they have their own space, own reading nook, own craft table and  making sure we put away enough money so they can attend the best college or any college they want. To go to medical school. I want to show them the world. Not materialistic stuff because that fades but give them the opportunity to excel at everything they can. Not for bragging rights but for pure knowledge. To gain wisdom. That's my dream for them.

Who's Ready For St. Patrick's Day? Me...

Ok so I am not Irish actually 100% Italian but not tomorrow! Because everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day...well everyone but my husband. He's not a fan but I am!

So I have my gear out and fun outfits for the girls. I even snuck some St. Patrick's Day treats in my daughter's book bag for her class. I have the crockpot ready for my corn beef and cabbage and even bought fancy napkins. My sitter wasn't available so I took the day off. Off to have some fun in the morning and entertain at night with my mommy friends.

As a kid I remember my teacher decorating the classroom and having green jello- which I made tonight with the kids. I am that mom that finds any excuse to party and have fun. Cause why not?! Life is short and we all could use some luck of the Irish! 🍀

Good night my cairde (that's friend in Irish according to google translate)

Two Hour Delay For Norwalk: Back To School They Go

Snow days oh how it makes me think two things: I love my kids but I don't think they like each other. It's true. The amount of fighting, yelling and arguing that took place yesterday was a little too much for me. One on one my kids are awesome combined well it's over the top.

I was laying in the couch and they are playing pretend like they have swords and my middle one cried she poked my belly but the oldest didn't in "pretend" play she did so as they go back and forth I turn to my phone and put on some music. They stop what they are doing and my living room turns into a dance party.

Snow days you envision staying in bed or the couch to catch up on sleep and movies. Well the only one who caught up on zzz's was my dog.

How was your snow day?

Breathe Sweet Mom...You'll Be Just Fine

This is the perfect post I have seen that is in prep for what tomorrow will be.

Breathe...as I prepare to be snowed in with my three munchkins. Luckily my husband will be snowed in with us so we have come up with a plan to try to stay sane. Breakfast. He works from home while I do crafts. Then lunch. I work from home while they nap and then maybe some outdoor snow fun. Just breathe...one day we may be snowed in alone wishing the kids were young kids again.

My Current View: Snow Day!

Snow days are bittersweet as a parent. You envision the day being stuck inside in your pjs watching movies and then play outside in the snow. Make cocoa and live happily ever after.... well that could happen but maybe lasts an hour. So working from home has amazing benefits but snow days aren't really one of them. They could be but when your clients are down south or the west coast work still carries on. Now the juggling act comes into play. Crafts, check email, lunch and snow fun, log into work, nap time and cuddling, responding to emails sent out in the morning. As I repeat my day in my head I catch myself saying to myself "embrace the day somehow" I lay myself on the couch with my cup of coffee and embrace the view. Because nothing in life is easy. Not snow days. Not work days. Not any day. BUT how you embrace it makes a world of a difference.

Parenting...There Is No Right Way

My girlfriend went on to say she sometimes puts too much pressure on herself  end of day she recaps the day and is hard on herself. Like she should of had more patience, she shouldn't have yelled at her child. She is trying hard but hasn't figure it out. I turned to her and asked is there really anyone who you admire as a parent? Is there any parent you want to copy. "no" she replied. Well there you go  I said. We all are just trying our best  there is no parent out there who has figured this out.

End of day look back and say I get the day my best and if you can't change it for the next day. No matter what studies say, no matter what authors have written, journey of parenting is a guessing game for us all.

Splash Zone At Chelsea Piers

I wanted to do something different with the kids to celebrate my middle one turning four so after some research I said to my husband let's take them to the water park after school at Chelsea Piers in Stamford Connecticut.

I booked our spot in the morning, $20 per child and $10 for a parent- who has to be in the water with young children. We show up and I love the fact they have a family locker room. Being a mom of three girls means dad gets off the hook with helping with the rest rooms and locker rooms but when there is  a family one we all can join in together. We change and head over to the water park.

It's super warm in the area. Perfect for the kids running in and out. Children have to be 48 inches to go on the big water slides so the two little ones use the smaller slides why my oldest daughter has a blast on the big ones. They have the cutest stuff there for toddlers. The time slot was for an hour which was plenty of time. After they were hungry and ready to go to dinner.

I would absolutely go back. It's a great place to switch it up with the kids. The first time I have been to Chelsea Piers was a month ago for a focus group and I was absolutely amazed at how cool it was. Water park, pools, gym classes, ice rinks. It's ginormous. My parents as a gift to my daughter gave us passes to go back. It is so much fun. Check it out: http://www.chelseapiersct.com/

How To Really Eat A Cupcake

This was news to me! We were at a baby shower and my sister says you know that's not how you eat a cupcake. What? I said as I peel off the liner and am about to bite into the icing. Just then she picks up her cupcake. Takes off liner. Ripes off the bottom and sticks it on top of the icing. Mess free and delicious....

Well That's Life: At That Moment All The Memories Come Back To You

We celebrated my daughter turning four this weekend. The party was such a success that my sister texted me and said she gave it an At. The funny thing is I kind of winged it. I mean work has been so busy. I didn't take any time off. I must have snuck out to three different grocery stores this week. I would work then do some stuff for the party. I usually pick a food theme but this time just made all my favorite dishes and those bringing a dish I requested my favorite dishes they make. So needless to say I said a couple of prayers and did my positive affirmations and the party was a hit. But it made me realize a couple of things. That things change and time flies by and there's really nothing you can do about it!

After dinner Friday night I look around and say to myself "how the hell am
I going to get this house ready by tomorrow". I take two tylenols and go to work. It's about close to 11:00 I finally finish all I have to do. My husband says goodnight and I crash on the couch. All of a sudden my dog is making a lot of noise. She snorts a lot when she's scratching her back or gets overly excited when someone comes over. But al of a sudden she's snorting super loud. I tell her to stop but she continues. I get up to see what's going on and realize her snout is stuck in side of her bed. She's foaming at the mouth. I scream for my husband and rush her outside to get some air. Relax he says, she's having a seizure. I will take her to the emergency vet. I am having a mini panic attack and pray.

She will be 16 this Fall. She's old. But also amazing. The coolest dog I have ever met. As I pace the house waiting for my husband to call or text me I get flashbacks to my dog's younger years. Her spunky self hopping all over the place. The way she would play catch. Things she hasn't done in years. I began to smile and it also was sad. Like why do things have to change? Why can't certain things remain the same. They suggested she stay over night and we said no we  wanted her home. I mean she's almost 16. We know she will die soon. What could they do to save her? They gave us medicine and I slept with her on chest that night. She's better now thankfully but things won't ever go back to way she was and it's just life.

My Dad at the party was telling me how he found pictures of when they took us to Washington DC. I must have been 8. He went on to say how great memories it was. It kind of made me sad. My parents recently turned 60. I know 60 isn't old. But it bothered me. Seeing my parents grow older. Having those health scares with my dad. It makes you want to freeze time and keep everyone the same, safe, healthy. With you. But you can't. So yes you build new memories but as time goes by realize things don't stay the same. That life changes and carries on.  That you and I or our parents or our pets don't stay young forever and somehow we have to learn to be ok with it. To cherish the moments and smiles at the memories. Sometimes it's hard for me to accept that. Sometimes you just have to say "well that's life".

A Fun Yet Yummy Birthday Tradition

Every Birthday we make a giant pigs in the blanket in the number the kids are turning. Not only is it fun to do with the girls but it's an awesome appetizer that kids and adults both enjoy.

All you need are two packages of crescent rolls and a package of hot dogs. I like to make this the night before and bake 30 minutes before guest arrive. It makes the table look festive and it's a fun tradition to do every Birthday with them.

Who Says You Can't Be A Unicorn

I picked up my sister and niece this morning to go to our gym class,  we haven't hung out in a couple of days since I have been swamped with work. I went on to tell her how my hours are starting to catch-up to me and being a mom and cooking and cleaning while working is adding more stress. I can't keep doing this all and keep my same routine something has to change. Maybe you see how other mom entrepreneurs are doing it she says.  Well, I responded, I don't think successful entrepreneurs are really cooking or cleaning or doing school pick up and drop off. They also pay more for full time help and I don't see them running around in the morning doing all the activities I do with my kids. Yes, she said, they do. You're not a unicorn.

Just then her daughter starts to cough. We think she's chocking on her bagel.  I ask her if she's ok and she responds but then starts to vomit. My sister can't really turn around to help her due to her collar bone injury so I say calmly it's ok and pull off the road. I quickly pull her out of the car seat and talk to her while making sure she's really not chocking. She's fine now but a mess. So I put her in the back seat of my mini van and  change her. Wrap her in my jacket and a t-shirt I had in the car  I clean her up and my sister says "wow you handled that like a pro. Maybe you are a unicorn"

Now all jokes aside I have three kids. The more kids you have the more organized your brain gets in situations but yes I like to believe I have a special talent and haven't yet figured it out but I will succeed while not having to give up my whole purpose being me, an entrepreneur, a mom,  a somewhat stay at home mom, working mom, craft mom, baker mom and sane unicorn mom.

Fruit Is The New Cupcake

Remember going to school on your birthday, being all excited to have your mom bring in cupcakes and you got to pass them out to all your classmates, yeah well those days are over. With so many different food allergies and who doesn't like what, schools have done away with cupcakes and now fruit is the safest thing to bring.

My middle one is turning 4 tomorrow. 4, crazy I know. She's changed so much this past year that she seems so much older for four. I mean four is a big number. It's no longer a toddler stage but a pre k stage and she melts my heart. I asked her preschool teacher what I could bring into her class to celebrate and she said fruit. Ugh, ok. Guess my oven won't be turned on tonight.

I originally wanted to make fruit kabobs but who has time for that and really all I could picture is kids hurting themselves trying to pull the fruit off so instead I did a Costco run and bought a huge bag of oranges and package of strawberries. I washed all the fruit and cut into the oranges. They were pink. Crap I thought, could these be grapefruits. I tasted one and they were the most amazing oranges I ever had- and first time I had a pink one too. I read the bag they called it "power" oranges. Not really sure why but all I know is I never heard anyone bing allergic to "power" oranges so I think they will be just fine.

Seeing Life In A Different Way! Pushing Myself For My Kids!

Work has been amazing yet super busy, at times I feel it's too overwhelming. We just got over the stomach bug in my house. We rearranged the girls room to make it more user friendly for them. I am at my breaking point- lack of sleep, working too much and juggling too much. When this happens tempers are short. I eat bad. I am moody and start to reevaluate why I do what I do and for who.

So tonight was another night. I rested a little while the girls played in their room and before I knew it was past 8:00. The kids still needed a bath and to get dressed for bed. I was moody I will admit it. My temper was short. The girls felt it and were quiet.  But then I got an email from my middle ones pre school teacher. She went on to say how amazing my daughter was doing at full day pre k and how she was keeping up with the older kids no problem and she mentioned a story about talking about firemen and matches and my daughter said she loved to play with matches. They asked her why and she replied it's fun to try to find the same pictures to match them up. My daughter loves board games and we have been playing a matching game one often. The teacher went on to say she explained to the other children what she meant and showed them the game and really enjoyed the laugh. She went on to say how smart she was. She gave my husband and I credit for raising such an amazing child. I teared up.

After reading it it dawned on me that all my hard work, all my late nights working while they slept was really for them. For my three girls to have an amazing life. Not to only have materialist things but to have me their for them. For me to be able to balance being their for them whenever they needed, when they are sick, getting ready in the morning, I do drop off and pickup, I make their breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday while juggling my own company and work load. I work while they are at school and sleep. It's for them. And it's amazing to see the rewards through them.

I know it may sound silly but realizing it's all for them makes the struggle easier. If I can balance being their for them while providing a good income to help contribute to the house and bills and the extras then I will do it. I will do it because my parents did it for me and I am now able to do it for my kids. I want them to be amazing in their own way with me by their side guiding them through it. I don't want to ever have to say no unless it's because of our choice to say no not because we can't financially. It really helps put life into a different perspective! In the end it's for them, the long days, the late nights working, the pushing to build my company, the days I have to give myself a pep talk to say I can make it through the chaos of the day. It's for them and if I could I would do even more just to make things better for them, so they can be even better!

Happy Monday All!

Enjoy the laugh!
